Truck Driver Discounts in 2026: What's Actually Free and What It Costs You

Most lists of truck driver discounts are a pile of logos. This one is the fine print.

The fine print is where the money is. Gallon thresholds. Expiry windows. And the program you cannot sign up for by yourself, no matter how much you want to.

Everything below came off the company's own page in September 2026. Where a program won't publish a number, this post says so instead of guessing.

Do truck drivers get discounts?

Yes, but almost all of them run through a loyalty program tied to fuel volume. Very few are a flat "driver discount." The real money is showers, parking and food credits earned by fueling. Perks programs from fleet software vendors are the second channel, and those depend on who you drive for.

What free showers do truck stop rewards programs actually give you?

All three major chains trade fuel volume for showers. The thresholds and expiry windows differ enough to change where you stop. A credit you earn is worth nothing if it expires before your next shower.

  • Pilot and Flying J. Every commercial diesel purchase of 50 gallons or more earns a free shower credit, valid up to 10 days. Fuel 1,000 gallons in one month and you can activate Shower Power. That's one free shower every day for the rest of that month, and all of the next.
  • Love's. A 50+ gallon fill earns one shower credit — for the driver and the co-driver, which teams should note. How long it lasts depends on your tier. Base (1–449 gallons a month) gets 7 days. Gold (500–999) gets 10 days. Platinum (1,000–1,499) and Diamond (1,500+) get unlimited showers.
  • TA and Petro. The earnify pro program gives up to one credit per day on a qualifying 60-gallon fill. It expires in 7 days, and you can bank 10. The credit is more flexible than the others: a shower, a $17 meal, or a reserved parking space.

One pattern worth seeing: Pilot and Love's start at 50 gallons, TA starts at 60. Split your fuel across chains and you can land just under two thresholds instead of over one.

Which truck stop rewards program is best for a driver?

It depends on volume, not on which app you like. Under about 500 gallons a month, chase the shower credit with the longest expiry. Above 1,000 gallons a month, Love's unlimited tiers and Pilot's Shower Power are worth routing for.

Three things the tier tables don't tell you:

  • Points are near cash at Love's. 100 points equals $1.00, so you can price a redemption instead of guessing at it.
  • Pilot's points scale. You start at 1 point per gallon and climb to 4. The last fills of a month are worth several times the first.
  • Expiry is the hidden cost. A 7-day credit is fine on a lane where you shower twice a week. On a lane where you take a hotel twice a month, it's a coupon you'll never spend.

What's changing on October 1, 2026?

Love's announced a loyalty overhaul on 26 February 2026. One piece of it lands October 1: the drink refill program moves from complimentary to a monthly credit model. If free refills were part of your daily math, that math changes next week.

The same upgrade doubled the Base tier's merchandise earning to 2 points per $1, with an extra 2 points per $1 on Love's-branded products, freshly made meals and bulk DEF. That's the trade being offered. More points on what you buy, fewer freebies on what you pour.

This is also the reason a page like this carries a date. A program announced in February can change your October.

Can any driver get the Samsara discounts?

No, and this is the part the coverage keeps skipping. Samsara's Driver Perks program is free, carries more than 50 brands, and advertises up to $350 in annual savings. But eligibility runs through your employer. You have to drive for a participating U.S.-based Samsara customer.

What that means in practice:

  • You cannot enroll on your own. Access comes from the fleet, through the driver app or a link your company sends. No fleet, no marketplace.
  • The $350 is projected, not promised. Samsara's own footnote calls it projected use of a representative set of offers over 12 months, with savings that vary by person.
  • Public sector fleets are excluded, on ethics rules.
  • It costs the fleet nothing. So if you drive for a Samsara customer and nobody has mentioned it, that's a question for your safety manager, not a dead end.

Named partners include Audible, BetterHelp, Dickies, Liquid I.V., 24 Hour Fitness, Harry's, Truck Parking Club and Farmers Insurance. Per-brand discount percentages aren't published anywhere. Don't plan a purchase around a number you saw in a forum.

What free stuff for truck drivers can you get without your company?

The programs that take you as an individual are the truck stop loyalty cards, which cost nothing, and association membership, which doesn't. Loyalty cards are the only genuinely free tier here, and they're the one most drivers underuse.

OOIDA is the membership most drivers ask about, and company drivers are eligible — not only the people who own their trucks. Dues run $45 for one year, $70 for two, $100 for three, $130 for four and $150 for five.

Membership carries discount and rebate programs, insurance products, business services, and legal and regulatory work. Whether it pays depends entirely on how much of that you'd use. Nobody joins for the discounts alone and comes out ahead.

What about truck driver discount hotels?

Driver hotel discounts exist, but they route through partner programs and booking sites rather than a published CDL rate at the front desk. This section is deliberately thin. No hotel brand's own page would confirm a current percentage, so this post doesn't print one.

What's worth knowing regardless of the rate:

  • The discount usually comes off the Best Available Rate, which moves. A percentage off a high number isn't automatically the cheapest room that night.
  • Parking is the constraint, not the rate. A cheaper room you can't fit the truck into costs more than a pricier one you can.
  • Ask the desk directly for a commercial or crew rate, especially near freight corridors. Calling is routinely cheaper than the app.
  • Check the partner programs you already have. Some parking and routing apps carry hotel partnerships that beat the public rate.

What's the fastest way to stop leaving money on the table?

Scan the card every single time, including in-store purchases. Points on fuel are automatic for most drivers. Points on the sandwich, the gloves and the DEF are the ones people forget, and they're where the new earning rates landed.

Then watch expiry. A credit you earned and let lapse is worse than no credit, because you paid for it with a fuel stop you routed around.

Frequently asked questions

How many gallons do you need for a free shower? Fifty gallons of commercial diesel at Pilot, Flying J and Love's. Sixty at TA and Petro. Pilot credits last up to 10 days. Love's credits last 7 days at Base tier and 10 at Gold, with unlimited showers at Platinum and Diamond.

Do truck drivers get free showers at truck stops? They earn them rather than receive them. Every major chain converts a qualifying fuel purchase into a shower credit with an expiry date. High-volume tiers convert that into unlimited showers for the month.

Is Samsara Driver Perks free? Yes, and it costs the fleet nothing either. But you can't join as an individual. You have to drive for a participating U.S.-based Samsara customer, and access comes through the fleet.

How much does OOIDA membership cost? $45 for one year, with multi-year rates of $70, $100, $130 and $150 for two through five years. Company drivers are eligible, not only the people who own their trucks.

Which truck stop has the best rewards program? For flexibility, TA's credit converts to a shower, a $17 meal or reserved parking. For high-volume drivers, Love's unlimited showers at Platinum and Pilot's Shower Power at 1,000 gallons a month are strongest. Below 500 gallons a month, pick on expiry length.

Do truck drivers get hotel discounts? Yes, through partner programs and booking sites rather than a standard published CDL rate. We couldn't verify a current percentage on any hotel brand's own page, so treat the numbers circulating online as unconfirmed and ask the property directly.

Open the app at your next stop. The Fuel tab shows truck stop menus with the numbers on them, for the stops you're already routing to for credits.

Where to verify this yourself:

Programs change without much notice. Love's announced the refill change seven months before it took effect. This page carries the date it was last checked at the top for exactly that reason.

The best discount here is still the one nobody markets: the shower you already earned and let expire.
